How to disable Auto Linking AKA Smart Linking in Crystal Reports

If you use any of the newer versions of Crystal Reports you’ll find one of the most annoying things about it is the Auto Linking (also known as Smart Linking) “Feature” when setting up tables in the Database Expert.  It’s quite annoying actually.  For me it’s personally broken reports by linking tables incorrectly, sometimes to themselves!  Probably the most annoying thing about it is that even if you happen to setup the links on your own how you like simply adding a table can wreck havoc.  I can’t remember where I found this (more…)

2008 is the year of Software Shift - Part 1 of ?

Back in the dot com boom, there were plenty of ideas that sounded great.  Unfortunately it seemed like there was a lack of technology and talent to get there.  Aeron chairs and big expensive Dell servers with cutting edge cubicles and catered lunches seemed to be the norm for a technology company.  How many of you remember the outlandish perks that were being given to anyone who knew about computers (I remember offers of BMWs and free dry cleaning).  Venture Capitalists were buying any and every company that had a .com attached to the end.  Sure they had business plans and lawyers, but in the end they didn’t have a product, only an idea or a concept.  While most of those companies that lacked a true service or product seemed to stretch their dollar and existence more so than their counterparts (having a real product or service requires significant overhead), they end the end still failed just like the rest.

Things such as the OpenID and Microsofts Passport offered soultions to solve the problem but haven’t had the adoption rate from developers that supporters had hoped for.

The best solution I’ve found for managing these multiple site username and password is Roboform. (more…)

Google one step closer to owning the internet

Google is on a pretty good roll in the last couple of years if you ask me.  The newest entrance into the services market is the Google App Engine.   It’s basically along the lines of the Amazon Web Service offerings.  I’m sure they’ll be a few twists.  I did manage to get in on the Beta so we’ll see what we can do and go from there.

This new software as a service trend is really exciting and it’s just starting, 2008 will be a great year.  Check out TechCrunch for a pretty good review on the newest Google offering.

Keeping track of all your sites.

Check out Domain Dashboard. It’s a pretty good way to keep track of all of your domains in one place. I’ve been going crazy trying to keep all my stats and info on each domain in one place. This software consolidates most of it.
